From Fries to Taters to Baked, every Spud Heads dish starts with a gluten-free potato with the skin on to maintain as much flavor and nutrition as possible. Our all-natural potatoes are cooked in zero trans fat frying oil, and this, coupled with tasty toppings created by our renowned Chicago chef, means eating at Spud Heads is a delicious and (sometimes) nutritious experience.

The term ‘hot potato’ was invented by renaissance sculptor and chef, Sid Hanson. That same year, ‘small fry’ was named best new expression by the Oxford English Dictionary, dethroning the term ‘small potatoes’ in what apparently was an off year in the creation of new words. But now, centuries later, Spud Heads has taken the hot potato, the mightiest of all vegetables, to a new level. And to prove it we offer seven different cuts of french fries that are like the seven wonders of the world. We also have tater tots. And baked potatoes. And eighteen delicious dishes (delishes?) that we generously add on top. We are way ahead of our time. Visionaries. We are potato prophets.

Have you ever been stranded on a deserted island in the South Pacific? Yeah, us neither. But for people who have nice manners and just want to survive, potatoes are your food. There’s a little protein in there, plus a few essential vitamins and minerals, and some slow burning carbohydrates. So you’re set.

Our Story


Our Story


 

We started our company with the philosophy of using only free range potatoes, completely bereft of steroids, antibiotics, and hormones.

 

But what exactly is a free range potato?

 

Well, a free range potato is a happier potato, and tastes better because it is allowed to roam freely outside. Our potatoes are never locked up in cages. On the contrary, our potatoes are grown outside and get plenty of fresh air and sunshine, like nature intended. They are treated ethically, and even though there are fences around them (so they don’t wander off), this is simply to protect them from predators.

 

On a more serious note, our culinary and operational teams are actually comprised of seasoned hospitality professionals gleaned from some of Chicago’s most recognizable restaurants. And our story starts with these Spud Heads and their dedication to creating a friendly, delicious experience, with potato soul.

We opened our first Spud Heads location at Yorktown Shopping Center, strategically located in the Foodcourt in Lombard, Illinois.

Our mission was, and is, to create fast casual restaurants that look and feel comfy, and warm but in a refined, city way. An every day place if you live in the area, and a destination if you don’t.
